The Valley encourages everyone to try and invite potential new members to join us for this joyous occasion and become part of our Scottish Rite family. The class will be named in honor of Ill. Ken Gorney. He was a hard working member and devoted much of his time to our great fraternity. He retired from First Energy Corporation Sammis Plant in Stratton, Ohio as a maintenance supervisor. Ill. Ken Gorney was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on January 16, 1980 in Pilgrim Lodge #691 in Steubenville, Ohio and served as the Worshipful Master in 2012; and also as a Lodge Education Officer in 2014-2015. He also was a member of the Aladdin Shrine in Columbus, Ohio, the Steubenville Shrine Club, served on the board of the Shrine Erie Hospital and the Royal Order of Jester. He and Jackie, his wife, were members of LaBelle Chapter #414 O.E.S. and several other affiliated Masonic bodies. Ill. Ken Gorney joined the Valley of Steubenville on April 26, 1980. He served the Valley as the Sovereign Prince of Cutler Council, Princes of Jerusalem in 2007 and Commander-in-Chief of Jefferson Consistory, S.P.R.S. in 2013. He was the Chairman of Family Life, director of the 10th, 15th, and 26th degrees, member and vice chairman of the Executive Committee, participated in numerous degrees and was the go to man for anything that needed done. He was honored with the Valley Service Award (VSA) in 2006, the recipient of the Meritorious Service Award (MSA) in 2009 in Dayton, Ohio and the “Spirit of the Valley Award” in May 2016. On August 28, 2013 in Washington, D.C. he was Coroneted a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33°, and an honorary member of the Supreme Council of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the United States of America, the 120th member of the Valley of Steubenville to receive this honor.
